We watch the ebb and flow of traffic to the beach throughout the year. And as you might have guessed, June through August are our most popular times. However, there’s a great time to vacation between when kids go back to school, and winter time, called the second or shoulder season. This means you can enjoy the lovely weather, warm ocean waves, but without the hoards of other tourists flocking to the seaside.
This also means it will probably be a bit quieter on the beach. Enjoy more slowly crashing waves and aviary life… with less screaming kids. Plus, it will be easier to get through the breakfast lines. And get first dibs on dinner reservations too.
As if you were rewarded for waiting, you’ll notice some area discounts will start popping up in and around the Outer Banks late summer into fall.
First, you’ll want to make sure you are following all your favorite spots, in and around the Outer Banks, on facebook or other social media platforms you enjoy.
Second, sign up for your favorite Outer Banks, and Surf Side Hotel, email lists. Then you’ll get alerts conveniently in your email in-box when discounts become available.
And finally, …Ask! When you call to make reservations, whether it be a restaurant or hotel, ask for the current best rate. Maybe, if you are dining during the week, there’s a special, or better seats to be had during a certain time. If you are celebrating a special occasion, ask what extras may be available to you.
With a little prior planning, you can certainly find a little extra to enjoy while on vacation during this special second season.
