Construction workers have been keeping busy in Powells Point, NC, constructing the H2OBX Waterpark.
The brand new waterpark, which is a $46 million project, is nearing completion.
The park is going to be about three miles outside of Currituck Bridge, a bridge that connects the northern Banks. The park is expected to open this upcoming summer and span for many acres, giving people yet another reason to vacation to the OBX.
H2OBX is expected to have over 30 water slides, two wave pools, an “adventure river,” a giant splash bucket and many of the other unique attractions. It will also have souvenirs stores, candy stores, and restaurants.
The park is expected to bring plenty of jobs into the area, likely over 300 positions, ranging from both seasonal to full-time.
The developers are hoping that the park will draw people to the mainland, at least for a day or so, during their OBX vacation. The park is roughly a 6 mile drive from most of the OBX beaches, making it an easy trip for tourists.
One of the most exciting features of the park is going to be a tower slide that will reach as high as eight stories, giving riders a stellar view of the countryside. Families will also able to rent cabanas so they can escape the sun and relax at their leisure.
With 250,000 tourists a day visiting the OBX during the summer months, and most of them staying for about a week, the waterpark will serve as a fresh and exciting attraction for all ages.
