Runners Can Soon Race Through the Outer Banks as Pirates

Runners Can Soon Race Through the Outer Banks as Pirates Have you signed up for a race this spring? If you are an avid runner, you possibly already know that many races surface as the weather improves but how many of them allow you to dress as a pirate?

The Outer Banks is hosting the First Flight 5K and the Flying Pirate Half Marathon on April 22nd and April 23rd, and runners are encouraged to show up wearing pirate gear.

Flying Pirate weekend, (beginning at 100 Veterans Drive, Kill Devil Hills, NC) will start out with the 5K on the scenic Outer Banks on Saturday April 22nd, followed by Sunday’s 13.1 mile half marathon. Half marathon runners will start in Kitty Hawk and finish back in Nags Head at the Pirate Jamboree.  Runners get to enjoy gorgeous views of the area throughout their race.

Runners will be recognized for their costumes, so don’t be afraid to get creative! There will be a special “mile marker” where judges will be taking a look at the passing pirate costumes and prizes will be awarded at the Jamboree following the races.

Free parking along with shuttle services are provided for all registered runners and their families.  They will also gain access to free food and drink, live music, award medals, t-shirts and more.

If you’re looking for a race to do this spring, don’t wait. Spots are slowly becoming limited, specifically for the First Flight 5K race.
