For families looking to enjoy a taste of the arts during their spring vacation to the Outer Banks, the Theatre of Dare is a great place to visit. Performances occur at the COA Auditorium, located less than ten minutes away from Surf Side Hotel. The perfect way to relax after a busy day out in the sun, we recommend catching a show before the theatre’s silver anniversary season ends in May.
The 2015-2016 season marks the Theatre of Dare’s 25th year of entertainment in the Outer Banks and their final show until the fall runs from April 22 to May 1. Written by Steve Martin, “Picasso at the Lapin Agile” is a comedic play centered around the theoretical meeting of Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso in a café in Paris in 1904 (shortly before both men reach the height of their success). A discussion of the shaping of the twentieth century, “Picasso at the Lapin Agile” was Steve Martin’s first stage comedy, one that has been performed many times since its off-Broadway premiere in October 1993.
Tickets for all performances cost just $30 each and can be purchased online or by mail.
The Theatre of Dare got its start in November 1991, and its first production was held in March 1992 at Port O’Call Restaurant – a great place to visit before the showing of “Picasso at the Lapin Agile” to listen to live music and enjoy a fresh, locally caught seafood dinner!
And now that you have some plans made for your Outer Banks excursion, all that’s left to do is book your stay at Surf Side Hotel. We can’t wait to see you here!
