The Outer Banks is a popular summer vacation destination, but did you know that it’s great for trips during the fall too? With temperatures in the 70’s and plenty of sunshine, fall is an ideal time to visit, and a favorite here at Surf Side Hotel.
Every Saturday during the month of October, you can visit the historic Island Farm grounds for some fall-themed fun! Explore all the different buildings, including the farmhouse, barns, blacksmith shop, and more.
Pumpkin patch activities
Take an ox-drawn wagon ride to Island Farm’s pumpkin patch and pick out the perfect pumpkin! There are also crafts like candle making and make-your-own corn husk doll, and kids and adults alike will have a blast stuffing scarecrows and taking photos with them in the scarecrow photo booth.
For some old fashioned fun, try their many 19th century games! Visitors can even get to know the farm animals by roaming with the free range chickens or visiting the cows in their barns and the ponies in their stables. Wagon hayrides are also a great way to experience the grounds; they run from 10:00am – 12:00pm and again from 1:30pm -3:30pm.
If you are in town on October 28th, be sure to stop by the pumpkin patch dressed in your Halloween costume and receive a spooky surprise!
Admission for Pumpkin Patch Saturdays is $8, and children ages 5 and under are free. You can also take home a pumpkin for an additional $5.
After a busy Saturday at the pumpkin patch, head back and relax at Surf Side Hotel. Make your reservation today so you can wake up in an ocean view hotel room tomorrow!
