The Outer Banks is a beautiful vacation destination for families to visit year-round and fall is one of our favorite seasons here at Surf Side Hotel. With mild weather and average temperatures in the 70s, the fishing is great and the wind is perfect for kite flying and wind surfing. There are also plenty of seasonal activities to take part in, including a visit to the Island Farm Pumpkin Patch!
Visit the farm any Saturday in October for a special trip back in time to life in the mid 1800s. Explore the island’s buildings, including the farmhouse, dairy and blacksmith shop while learning about the farm’s history. Admission is $8 per person and children age 5 and under are free. For $4 apiece, you can pick your own pumpkins as well.
From ox-drawn hayrides to a scarecrow photo booth, your whole family is sure to have a great time. Children have the chance to make their own corn husk dolls and candles and there are plenty of 19th century games for everyone to play. Watch the free range chickens run wild and visit with the cow, sheep and ponies who call the farm home.
Stuff a scarecrow to help protect the pumpkin patch and get a unique view of the island on the ox-drawn hayrides. The rides run from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Visiting OBX for Halloween? Wear your costumes to the farm for a surprise! Open until November 28 this season, the Island Farm is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.
Head to Surf Side Hotel to book your stay and start planning your autumn getaway. We look forward to your visit!
