Celebrate the joys of summer and kite flying with the Outer Banks community at the 35th Annual Wright Kite Festival! This year’s event takes place Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Visit the Wright Brothers National Memorial and participate in the awe-inspiring kite flying event hosted by Kitty Hawk Kites.
Enjoy a day at the park where Wilbur and Orville Wright spent three years experimenting and finally flew on December 17, 1903! Park entry is $4 per person and includes museum admission, activities and participation in the kite flying fun! This family friendly event includes a large kite display all weekend long, as well as kite flying lessons and kite making crafts from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.
Kitty Hawk Kites offers a plethora of adventures throughout the Outer Banks, including dolphin watches, kayaking, horseback riding and parasailing. To prep for the Wright Kite Fest, we recommend flying a reproduction of the 1902 Wright Glider! This one-of-a-kind glider experience takes place in Nags Head and takes you up to 15 feet off the ground.
Spend your weekend enjoying the Wright Kite Festival, then head back to Surf Side Hotel in nearby Nags Head, North Carolina each night!
